Katy Perry has admitted that she used to pretend to be Zooey Deschanel to get into clubs.

The singer said that when she first moved out to LA, she had no money, and revealed that she would use the fact she looked like the actor to her advantage.

The shock admission came during an Instagram Live, which the pair took part in to discuss Perry's new music video for her single 'Not The End of The World', in which Deschanel is abducted by aliens who mistake her for the singer.

During the chat, Perry, 36, said: "When I moved to LA maybe 18 years ago... I was pretty much a nobody, and you were like just getting so huge at that time, it was like Zooey Deschanel ran the world.

"In that moment, I was so complimented to look like you.

"But I have to admit something to you. When I first got to LA, I went to the club. A lot. And I wanted to get into the club, but I had no money, I had no clout, I had nothing, and sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club."

However, the New Girl star was already aware that Perry had passed herself off as her, as she was a 'goody two-shoes' and people were shocked to see her out partying.

The 40-year-old said: "Well, I know this. People were, like, 'I saw you!' But I'm such a goody two-shoes, and people kept going, like, "I saw you out! I made eye contact with you!"

"Then everybody kept telling me about you, 'This girl, Katy, she looks just like you', and I'm, like, 'Who is this Katy?'

"And then when I first met you, I was so relieved because you're so pretty, and I was, like, 'Oh, thank God. She's so pretty'."

Perry then apologised for her behaviour, as it was so very out of character for the actor.

Adding: "So I'm sorry if I misrepresented you."

Earlier this year, the 'Fireworks' singer also explained why she wasn't naked on the now infamous paddleboard photo with Orlando Bloom.

Speaking to US radio personality Howard Stern, the 35-year-old said she wasn't scared of being photographed and would have warned Orlando if she thought they would have been; it just wasn't for her.

She said: "I mean, I would have never like set him up, if I had a real thought, but in the back of my mind... I am Jim Carrey in The Truman Show a little bit, so I thought maybe there would be a chance.

"I would say I'm a little more of the pragmatic in the partnership."

Perry said Orlando got caught out because he was trying to blend in with the way of doing things on the continent.

She added: "Well it was Europe. And honestly we had had a pretty chill time for a week and everywhere we looked it was like everybody's naked, it's Europe, it's Italy.

"And I think he wanted to fit in with the locals and it was the end of the trip."
