A lobster fisherman who was trapped inside a whale's mouth has revealed how he survived. Watch the clip below:

The incident occurred when Michael Packard, 57, was diving in waters in USA's north-east region off the Cape Cod coast, where a whale virtually swallowed him.

In an interview on 60 Minutes he told the host that it came 'out of nowhere, just kaboom'.

He continued: "Everything went dark. I was convinced I was dead. I was convinced.

'It took me about five seconds to realise I was in that whale's mouth, and... And I went, "holy s***".'

Michael is a father of two teenage boys and he didn't think he would ever see them again.

"All I could think about was my boys, a lovely wife and a mother that has gone through hell."

It was assumed that the whale had two options, to start eating the fisherman alive or to swim down to the ocean where the pressure of the sea water would simply crush him to death.

Michael's legs were caught in its jaws and he was trapped.

He continued: "Unless he lets me get out, it's not like I'm gonna pry myself out and swim out. He was going to do what he wanted with me."

Thankfully the fisherman had roughly 50 minutes worth of air with a scuba tank on his bank but the fear of getting stuck remained the same.

"I could tell that he wasn't going to kill me - it's just, I'm stuck in his mouth."

"And then I felt him going up, and then he started and getting aggressive. And I was like, oh my god, he doesn't like this! He's trying to get rid of me!"

"I had just a tiny bit of hope. And then he's thrashing, and going back and forth, then all of a sudden - light."

Miraculously, the whale reached the surface of the ocean and decided to spit and release Michael out of its mouth.

He swiftly came to the realisation that he survived and was relatively unscathed.

"And I was like, oh my god, I got out of it, I'm alive! No matter how injured I am, I'm not gonna die. I'm here!"

Despite the haunting incident, Michael says that he isn't put off fishing and will continue to surf the waters and fulfil his passion.

"Fishing was my life. I haven't fished in two weeks and I'm going out of my mind!"

Astonishingly, this isn't the first time Michael has cheated death, he is also a plane crash survivor and three other passengers were unfortunately killed in the process.
