A priest in the US was arrested after he allegedly recorded himself having a threesome with two dominatrices at the altar.

Reverend Travis Clark was detained at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Louisiana on 30 September after a passer-by noticed what was going on and called police.

The women were dressed in corsets and high heels, and stage lighting and sex toys were found at the scene, as well as a phone and a camera mounted on tripods, according to court documents.

Clark reportedly told police that the women were his 'guests and friends'.

Clark - who has been a pastor at the church since last year - was charged with obscenity, according to Nola.com.

Mindy Dixon - a porn star and dominatrix for hire - and Melissa Cheng were also charged with obscenity. The former posted on social media on 29 September saying she was on her way to meet another dominatrix 'and defile a house of God'.

All three were charged with obscenity.

The archdiocese announced it had suspended Clark from ministry the day after he was arrested.

Clark was released from jail on a $25,000 (£19,000) bail and could face between six months and three years in prison if convicted.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond subsequently visited the altar and performed a ritual to restore its sanctity.

Town council member and lifelong member of the church, Kat Walsh, said she had always found Clark to be likable and hardworking, but said the arrests had upset parishioners.

According to Nola.com, she said: "What upsets me is, why did he have to do that there? I'm upset for all of us, the parishioners of the church. Why there?"

Neither the archdiocese nor Clark have made public comment about the arrest.

Pearl River Mayor David McQueen said: "There hasn't been a whole lot of talk, they're kind of hush-hush about it."
