The Metropolitan Police has released footage of Russell Brand being interviewed while under investigation.

Brand, 51, was convicted of rape and three counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday (5 November). He was acquitted on three further counts.

Following the end of a four-week trial, Metropolitan Police has shared interviews from November 2023 and July 2025, as Brand is being questioned on allegations of rape and sexual assault.

Throughout the conversations, the former film star read out prepared statements and refused to answer certain questions.

When the allegation he raped a 21-year-old fan at his Hampstead townhouse was put forward by police, Brand replied: “I have nothing to add at this time.” He has since been found guilty of rape regarding this incident.

In one clip. Brand issues a statement regarding the 2023 investigation by The Times, Sunday Times and Channel 4 which first accused him of sexual misconduct.

“I led a very promiscuous life in the past, which I have spent years openly denouncing,” he said.

“On September 16 2023, a defamatory and fictitious documentary was broadcast in conjunction with the publication of two national newspapers containing false anonymised allegations, which led to unprecedented media reporting.

“Subsequently, both the media and the police publicly invited additional allegations to be made, which has resulted in further encounters being invented or reimagined.”

Brand accused the media of ‘reframing’ what he called ‘consensual encounters’.

“I had sexual encounters in countless locations and scenarios, often with people I had just met,” he added.

“The way of life that I have described, the magnitude of the promiscuity, deceptively rendered in recent media attacks, accompanied by advertisements for complainants, have caused consensual encounters to be unfavourably reframed decades later.

"As I stated at the outset, I have never engaged in any non-consensual activity."

He then said he did 'not intend to respond' to the police's questions without 'sufficient time to consider the information, to answer accurately'.

Following Brand's conviction today, Mr Justice Bennathan told him: “You’ve been convicted of a number of offences including rape.

“The consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term.

“My current view is that I therefore have to remand you into custody.”

David Roberts, senior prosecutor in the London rape and serious sexual assault unit, said Brand was ‘predatory and used his celebrity status to commit sexual crimes’.

The prison van Russell Brand is believed to have been inside has just left Southwark Crown Court (PA)

“He was a manipulator with an insatiable desire to get what he wanted regardless of whether consent was given or not,” Roberts said.

“As his career took off, he seized opportunities to assault the women around him.

“Although his tactics varied, at the centre of every assault was an abuse of power and sexual greed, with a complete disregard for the impact of his actions.

“I would like to thank all the women in this case for their courage in coming forward and seeing this sexual abuser brought to justice."

Brand remains in custody ahead of his sentencing on Monday.
