Donald Trump has made his thoughts clear on whether he’s going to run for a third term.
I mean, let’s start off with the obvious: the US Constitution actually prohibits any president from being in office that many times.
But no one was too surprised when Trump previously said he was ‘not joking’ about being the one to change that with ‘Trump 2028’ hats being sold by his company.

Even his ex-advisor, Steve Bannon, said the team were considering ‘many different alternatives’ to have a third term of the 78-year-old in the White House.
Trump later claimed his statements were meant to troll the ‘fake news media’ and his latest interview has revealed more on it.
Airing on Sunday (4 May), he spoke with Kristen Welker for NBC’s Meet the Press as he also made a bit of a military threat to Greenland.

Pre-recorded at his residence in Florida, Trump claimed he has had many ‘requests’ asking him to consider seeking a way of staying in office.

“So many people want me to do it,” he said.
“It's something that, to the best of my knowledge, you're not allowed to do. I don't know if that's constitutional that they're not allowing you to do it or anything else.”
The 22nd Amendment of the Constitution says that ‘no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice’.
He told Welker that he’s not had any official meetings specifically about establishing a pathway for a third term but has heard ‘different concepts’ about the potential options.

None of them would be particularly simple though as an expert told LADbible the different methods that may be used to attempt getting a third term.
“There are many people selling the 2028 hat,” Trump said as last month the Trump Organisation began selling them for $50.

The description read: “The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat.”
However, the president told Welker that his aim will be to hand over the presidency despite these calls for him to ‘rewrite the rules’.

“But this is not something I’m looking to do,” he said of his supporters’ wishes.
“I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican to carry it forward.”
And as Welker asked if his Vice President JD Vance would be ‘at the top of the list’ for doing that, Trump said he ‘could very well be’.
Adding that these kinds of discussions are ‘far too early’ right now, he said: “I don’t want to get involved in that. I think he’s a fantastic, brilliant guy. Marco [Rubio] is great. There’s a lot of them that are great.”
