Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and if you’re planning to pop the big question, then listen up.

To celebrate the most romantic time of year, Poundland has brought back its famous £1 engagement rings, and people are divided.

One shopper took to TikTok to announce the exciting news, racking up over 31,000 likes in the process, and the first thing we did was scroll down to the comments section.

To put it politely, a large number of Brits aren’t too keen on the idea, with some worried about their ‘finger turning green’.

“I care about my partner, so no,” one stated.

“Cost doesn’t matter apart from I just want to wear it and [my finger] not turn green,” another said.

A third chimed in: “Here as a man and I would not stoop this low on a ring.”

But others aren’t totally against the idea and raised the point that the budget ring could be a placeholder whilst waiting to find something your partner actually likes.

“These aren’t as daft as you think,” one social media user wrote. “Use one to propose and then go buy an actual ring together - in the right size too.”

Another agreed, adding: “If you’re dirt poor, you still deserve to be able to partake in this stuff too, and at the end of the day it’s about the symbol, not how much you spend.”

A third romantic also made a fair point. “I would say yes if he proposed with literally anything,” they wrote. “I don’t think it’s about the ring, it's about the love between two people.”

Where to buy the viral £1 engagement ring now (if you're keen)

If you can’t make your mind up, there are four styles of engagement rings to choose from, whether you have your heart set on a sparkly silver or ruby faux diamond. If you’re after something a little more classic, there’s also a simple band up for grabs. Each ring is presented in a luxury velvet heart-shaped box - and nothing costs more than a quid.

The product description reads: “Hearts will be racing this Valentine's with our stand-by engagement ring because we promise they'll want to choose their own.”

With less than a month to go until the big day, the engagement rings are sure to fly from the shelves, so make sure to hurry if you’re keen to save some dosh.
