Sleep Expert Reveal Why You Should Never Hit Snooze

Sleep Expert Reveal Why You Should Never Hit Snooze

The TikTok doctor has gone viral for trying to help others have a better night's sleep

A man who calls himself 'America's Sleep Doctor' believes that tapping the ever-so-tempting snooze button in the morning is 'a terrible idea'. Watch what he has to say in the video below:

Dr. Michael Breus Ph.D (@thesleepdoctor) has gone viral for his videos on TikTok that aim to help others from having a better night's sleep.

I think many of us are guilty for wanting a lie-in and by smashing the snooze button, it often feels like you get an extra 10 minutes sleep every time.

However, Dr. Breus is certain that we 'stay in bed too long' and asks the question 'are you waking up tired?'.

Sharing the video with his 47,000 followers, he revealed: "Many of my patients tell me that they hit the snooze button four to six times in the morning.

"This is a terrible idea.

"Remember, the average snooze button is about seven to nine minutes long.

"This does not give your brain the time it needs to get back into deep sleep, and your last 30 to 60 minutes of sleep are broken and fragmented.

"Instead, try setting your alarm for the last possible time you must get up or if you have just enough time to push the snooze button one time."

The vid has racked up 56,000 views and many were quick to voice their opinion in the comments.

One user joked: "I don't need this kind of negativity in my life."

Another quipped: "I hit the snooze button so much I call 911 sometimes."

A third added: "4-6 times? Amateurs. I'll happily hit snooze every 10 minutes for 3 hours."

Another commented: "Hit the snooze? I can sleep through entire alarms."

Another user, that I'm a bit envious of, wrote: "I don't hit snooze. But then I wake up usually before my alarm."

To which, The Sleep Doctor explained: "People’s bodies have their own natural alarm clocks which can subconsciously wake you up when you want."

He added: "That’s typically how you should wake up in the mornings."

Seems like I've got a lot to learn here.
