A would-be robber has been left with a pretty badly messed up face after he tried to rob a UFC fighter using a gun made out of cardboard.

OK, so robbing people is not a nice thing to do and perhaps he got what he deserved, but you've got to have at least a crumb of sympathy for the guy. This is really unlucky.
UFC star Polyana Viana was waiting for a taxi in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, when the hapless thief came up to her and demanded that she hand over her mobile phone. He claimed that he was packing a firearm, but that didn't seem to faze the MMA fighter.
She punched and kicked the guy before locking him into a choke hold and waiting for the cops to arrive.

As it happened, the misguided mugger begged for her to call the police in order to prevent getting another hiding.
The 26-year-old mixed martial artist held him in the rear-naked choke until the authorities showed up. That's a long time to be in a choke hold.

Viana told MMA Junkie: "When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me.
"He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn't going to leave. So, I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist. And then he said, 'Give me the phone. Don't try to react, because I'm armed.'
"Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realised it was too soft."
Not good news for her attempted attacker.

Viana continued: "He was really close to me. So, I thought, 'If it's a gun, he won't have time to draw it.' So, I stood up I threw two punches and a kick.
"He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, 'Now we'll wait for the police.'"
"I was fine because he didn't even react after. Since he took the punches very quickly, I think he was scared.
"So, he didn't react anymore. He told me to let him go, like 'I just asked for the time.' I said, 'Asked for the time my ass,' because he saw I was very angry. I said I wouldn't let go and that I was going to call the police.
"He said, 'Call the police, then' because he was scared I was going to beat him up more."

Polyana has a 1-1 record in the UFC, but before joining the promotion she won nine previous fights. She's not the kind of person you'd want to try to rob, either way.
UFC chief Dana White seemed to enjoy the news, taking to Instagram to say: "On the left is @polyanaviana, one of our @UFC fighters and on the right is the guy who tried to rob her #badfuckingidea"

Let that be a lesson to you. If you're going to rob someone, make sure it isn't a trained UFC fighter.
Better still, don't try to rob anyone. In fact, do that.
