The Olympics opening ceremony in Paris tonight has had a lot of interesting, weird, and sometimes confusing moments - but the raised flag was a moment to behold.

At the close of the opening ceremony, organisers managed to raise the flag wrongly, as social media users were quick to notice the problem. Take a look:

Viewers took to X to talk about the mistake made by the Olympic team.

One user said: "Bro the Olympic Flag is upside down," as another commented: "As I saw it: I thought how [do] they know it’s right. And now it’s wrong. Sorry so funny…"

A third said: "Oh no. They hung the Olympic flag upside down!"

And a fourth put: "If you’re having a bad day at work, it could be worse. You could be the flag team that hoisted the Olympic Flag upside down at the opening ceremony."

It's been an eventful ceremony to say the least, with a blue coloured Smurf man having held the spotlight for a while, after the minions died and Lady Gaga made an extravagant entrance.

Despite all of this though, many people have been disappointed by the ceremony as a whole.

Rain began to pour down on the athletes and the performers, with many people taking to X to share their thoughts on the ceremony.

One user shared: "This #OpeningCeremony is an absolute shocker. So desperate, zero atmosphere, random boats, no focus, awful Gaga song... It's so painfully poor. This is the Olympics!! It's like a local carnival."

Another said: "I’m actually embarrassed on the behalf of France, this is going down as the worst opening ceremony in history."

A third commented: "I’m sorry but this has to be the worst Olympic opening ceremony in memory. It’s an interesting idea bringing the athletes in on boats but it looks rubbish and misses the roar of the crowd. Sorry but not for me."

And a different user posted: "No offence France, but the boat idea was a terrible one."

Some were even 'confused' by what they were seeing over the three hours.

One fan posted on X to say, “Truly bizarre Opening Ceremony. I am so confused”, before following up with a reply saying: “I’m pretty sure we’re supposed to be high watching this”.

A sixth said: “This whole opening ceremony feels like those weird videos they show in between Eurovision entries”.

Following the rumours of a duet with Lady Gaga and Celine Dion though, fans will be eagerly waiting for the close of the ceremony.
