Team USA suffered their heaviest defeat in decades last night (6 July) thanks to a Belgian 4-1 victory.
But it wasn’t just the scoreboard that was a bitter pill to swallow, but perhaps the message their opponents sent.
The hosts’ game with Belgium came after a whole load of controversy surrounding FIFA’s decision to overturn US striker Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban.
Earlier on yesterday, Donald Trump revealed he had asked the football body to review the red card which he said would have left a ‘big stain’ on the World Cup.

And so, with Balogun allowed to play them, Belgium are said to have served up a dance similar to the ‘Trump dance’ while celebrating their fourth goal. Fans say it was a ‘mocking’ of the US president as they simply said: “Well played.”

Romelu Lukaku scored the final goal in added time and ultimately served the dagger in the heart for team USA.
And several of his teammates then joined him in the corner as they were filmed dancing.
The ‘Trump dance’ of course gained notoriety back in the 2024 US presidential campaign, as he does his little rock of the hips and slowly pumps his arms in time to the music.
Now, Belgium are dancing their way into the quarter-finals as fans said on X: “Belgium was MOCKING Trump at the end of the game.”

Another put: “After Belgium scored their 4th goal vs USA, the whole team mocked President Donald Trump by doing his signature dance move. Pretty savage troll, especially on US soil & after Trump fought to have FIFA review the bogus red card suspension on Balogun. Well played.”
Others simply called it ‘fantastic sh**housery’ and ‘generational trolling’.
And a US fan even said: “Belgium did the Trump dance after their fourth goal against us. I can’t help but respect this trash talk. They whipped us, they get to dance.”
Lukaku adds the finishing touch to a dominant Belgian display! 💥

This dancing adds to the official Belgium national team’s social media account appearing to mock the saga. It shared snaps of the goal celebrations with the simple caption: “Overturn this.”
Belgium’s head coach, Rudi Garcia, told press that after the game Balogun ‘came to talk’.
"I really liked that," he said. "It's not his fault, he's not the one to blame and that's what I told him."
And the boss added that his team is ‘very mature’ and what ‘really mattered’ for the match was their ‘game plan’.
