Team USA skateboarder Nyjah Huston has shared the 'rough' condition of his Olympic medal just a week after winning it in Paris.

The 29-year-old finished in third place in the men’s street final behind his compatriot Jagger Eaton who took home the silver after Japan’s Yuto Horigome picked up the gold on 29 July.

Huston - who won a whopping 12 gold medals at the X Games - went on to celebrate on his return to the US, as you would expect.

However, after just over a week he's noticed how his Olympic medal is starting to deteriorate.

Taking to his Instagram Story on Thursday (8 August), Huston showed his 5.3 million followers what the state of his bronze medal was like.

In the short clip, he says: "Alright, so these Olympic medals look great when they're brand-new.

"But after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and letting my friends wear it over the weekend.

"They're apparently not as high quality as you'd think.

"Look at that though. It's looking rough.

"Even the front, it's starting to chip off a little.

"So yeah I don't know, Olympic medals, we gotta step up the quality a little bit."

In the caption of another photo he wrote that the 'medal looking like it went to war and back'.

Commenting online, one viewer said: "That is just sad that the quality of the medals is not any better than that. After the hard work these athletes put in over years to try to win at the Olympics, they deserve better.

Someone else wrote: "My father's school track and golf medals are actually bronze, and they are in perfect condition since he won them in 94-years ago."

Meanwhile, Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, who pipped Simone Biles to win gold in the gymnastics floor final, has explained why she is avoiding wearing the medals.

"They [the medals] are knocking against each other and are scratching," she said.

"I'm getting sad. And I don't want to be sad. So I'm not going to wear them around my neck anymore."

"I'm going to walk around with two in my hands and two in my pocket."

The medals for the Games were designed by Paris jewellery house Chaumetand and were made by the Paris Mint.

LADbible has contacted Chaumetand and the Paris Mint for comment.
