Starburst lollies have been discontinued in Australia. Just when you thought 2022 couldn't get any worse.

The confectionary company behind the sweet treat has broken the sad news after Aussies began to question why the fan favourite had vanished from supermarkets.

Sydney woman Nariman Dein called out Starburst in a TikTok video, asking her followers and Starburst to tell her where she can get her hands on a pack of the tasty sweet treats.

"Can someone tell me where these lollies went?" she asked in the now viral video, which has now been viewed more than 270,000 times.

"I’ve been looking everywhere - Big W, Coles, whatever - these lollies don’t exist ... did they just stop selling them and no one realised?"

Well, her short clip certainly caught the attention of Aussies, with people flocking to the comments section with the same question: Where the hell are our Starburst lollies?

One user said: "Now that I think of it, I haven't seen Starburst in ages."

A second added: "Omg the babies were my favourite. Okay, I need to know where they disappeared [went]."

A third chipped in with: "I literally was searching for them yesterday because they didn’t have them in Sydney and I thought Brisbane would have them but they don’t."

Well, the situation was cleared up by Mars Wrigley, the company behind Starburst.

A spokesperson for the confectionery company told 7News that the reason the fan favourites have vanished is because the brand had been discontinued.

"We regularly review our Mars Wrigley product range to ensure we’re offering our consumers great tasting products that are also great value for money,” the spokesperson told Seven.

"Our STARBURST products are imported from Europe and like many businesses that are importing products from overseas, the brand has been exposed to supply chain difficulties and rising cost pressures over the last two years."

People have been absolutely devastated by the revelation.

One person wrote on social media: "Nooo not Starburst. I like the starburst chews as they were the bomb."

Another added: "These were always a must I’m my kids Santa sacks when they were young, I had the left overs."

A third said: "What will they take from us next?"

Mars Wrigley revealed that after 'reviewing all options', they made the 'difficult decision' to wipe the brand from Aussie shelves from June 2022.

Instead, the confectionary giant will focus on products that can be manufactured locally.

"As a proud Australian manufacturer for more than 60 years, we are taking this opportunity to prioritise and invest in the brands and products we make locally in Australia such as M&Ms, Maltesers, Skittles, Snickers, Extra and Eclipse."
