Taliban accuses Prince Harry of war crimes after admitting he killed in Afghanistan

The Taliban have claimed Prince Harry committed 'war crimes' after he spoke about his service in Afghanistan

The Taliban have accused Prince Harry of committing war crimes after the latest round of royal revelations from his book Spare where he said he'd killed 25 people in combat.

In Harry's book he wrote that he saw the people he killed as 'chess pieces' that needed to be taken off the board.

He wrote that the amount of people he killed in Afghanistan was 'not a number that fills me with satisfaction, but nor does it embarrass me'.

Describing killing Taliban fighters as 'baddies eliminated before they could kill goodies', Harry was criticised for his announcement by a Royal Marine who had called the prince a 'hero'.

Ben McBean, who lost an arm and leg during the conflict, said Harry shouldn't be talking about the number of people he killed while serving with the armed forces in Afghanistan.

Writing on social media, he said: "Love you Prince Harry but you need to shut up! Makes you wonder about the people he’s hanging around with.

"If [they were] good people, somebody by now would have told him to stop."

A senior Taliban leader also responded to the prince's words on social media, with Anas Haqqani taking to Twitter to accuse him of committing 'war crimes'.

He wrote: "Mr. Harry! The ones you killed were not chess pieces, they were humans; they had families who were waiting for their return.

"Among the killers of Afghans, not many have your decency to reveal their conscience and confess to their war crimes."

More to follow.
