We might all be pretty fearful about artificial intelligence taking our jobs and the bad news is that ChatGPT has just released its smartest model yet.
The rapid growth of AI has been equal parts fascinating and terrifying, with the technology now capable of things we might have never thought possible just a few years ago, when we were just stuck with poorly generated videos of Will Smith eating spaghetti, which seems to the universal way in which its measured.
Although the tech can come with a lot of benefits when it's used in the right way, such as identifying cancers in scans before a human eye could pick it up, the sad reality is that it's being primarily used for all the wrong reasons.
Other models have come under fire for the sexual images they have generated, with it seemingly on a matter of time before some parts of the population decide they want to live their lives with AI rather than another person, since it's already doing all their critical thinking for them.
What has OpenAI said about the new update?
After the 5.5 update was launched by OpenAI recently, the tech company clarified exactly what it can offer, with it worryingly stating that it's going to be an even bigger help at work, where many are already too reliant on it for doing their jobs.

OpenAI writes: "We’re releasing GPT‑5.5, our smartest and most intuitive to use model yet, and the next step toward a new way of getting work done on a computer.

"GPT‑5.5 understands what you’re trying to do faster and can carry more of the work itself. It excels at writing and debugging code, researching online, analysing data, creating documents and spreadsheets, operating software, and moving across tools until a task is finished. Instead of carefully managing every step, you can give GPT‑5.5 a messy, multi-part task and trust it to plan, use tools, check its work, navigate through ambiguity, and keep going."
So, it's pretty clear that a lot of people are going to be visiting ChatGPT to make the most of this new update in the coming weeks but it's vital that we shouldn't be using it for trivial tasks, because of the shocking impact it can have on the environment.
What is the dark truth about using ChatGPT?
Although artificial intelligence companies have previously stressed to LADbible, and the rest of the world, that the environmental impact of their services is something they are working on, it's still a huge cause for concern right now.
While you might have a thirst for knowledge, ChatGPT seemingly has a thirst for the Earth's water supplies, with reports suggesting that every time you open it up for a quick chat, you're wasting around 50cl of water for every 10 to 50 queries.

It's not just water that the technology is utilising however, as it also requires a huge amount of electricity to power AI centres, with it thought to consumes over half a million kilowatts of electricity each day according to Forbes.
Artificial intelligence companies would argue that AI has the potential to accelerate the discovery of climate solutions, with Open AI only recently launching a multi-year partnership with the US National Laboratories, involving the nation's top scientists to advance scientific breakthroughs, including in energy.
Yet there is no doubt that the current use of the technology, which is becoming more and more prevalent in society, is having a damaging impact on our planet. That's probably worth thinking about the next time you make a silly request.
