Twitter is officially no more after more than two decades. Well, kind of.

The social media company that everyone knows and loves is still here, however, it has a brand new name.

Elon Musk announced Twitter would be rebranded to X and would get rid of the iconic blue bird logo.

He confirmed the move over the weekend and said it was time for users to say goodbye to the Twitter brand and 'all the birds'.

The letter is clearly special to the tech billionaire as he's used it for Tesla X, SpaceX and even named one of his children X Æ A-Xii (who could forget).

“Not sure what subtle clues gave it away, but I like the letter X,” the tech billionaire wrote.

Linda Yaccarino, CEO of the social media app, called the rebranding an 'exceptionally rare thing' and 'a second chance to make another big impression'.

“Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square,” she shared in a tweet.

“There is absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well… everything.”

Musk previously raised the idea of X becoming an ‘everything app’ when he purchased Twitter last year for $44 billion.

The X.com website now redirects to twitter.com and an interim logo has gone live.

The new logo was teased on Musk’s account in a short three-second video with a thick white X glitching over the old blue Twitter bid.

Designed by user @ajtourville, the new logo takes inspiration from the Art Deco movement after Musk sent a call out to his followers asking for new logo designs.

In a livestream on the app, Musk apologised to listeners about the Twitter to X rebrand saying 'sorry it took so long', and that 'it should have been done a long time ago'.

However, many users have been left unimpressed by the rebranding.

The Twitter account has a new look.

At the time of Musk’s takeover, it was estimated that up to 32 million users would leave the app, with many turning to Meta’s Threads - which has just reached 100 million users.

Musk has received criticism for several changes to the social media app such as the verification system, limiting the amount of tweets a user can view each day and the subscription service.

“Frankly, I love the negative feedback on this platform,” Musk posted, “Vastly preferable to some sniffy censorship bureau!”

Oh, and it won't be called posting a tweet anymore. As part of the rebrand it's called posting 'an X'. Just rolls off the tongue.
