Tech reviewer Marques Brownlee says he 'can’t possibly be the only one to notice this'

One of YouTube's top tech reviewers has noticed a bizarre issue with the new iPhone 16 that you would only realise without a case on.

With 19.5 million subscribers, Marques Brownlee - known as MKBHD - is YouTube's go-to guy for anything smartphone related.

Yesterday (18 September) he dropped his full unboxing video on the platform of the new iPhone 16 range.

Apple announced the four new smartphones last week, all set to go on sale on 20 September.

Prices for the new iPhone 16 range:

  • iPhone 16 - starting at £799
  • iPhone 16 Plus - starting at £899
  • iPhone 16 Pro - starting at £999
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max - starting at £1,199

Now, the main feature of the four smartphones is that they will all come with Apple Intelligence capabilities, using its generative AI to help navigate through daily tasks.

But from a hardware point of view, Marques was more critical of Apple for the design of its camera bumps.

As you've probably noticed, the cameras on the iPhones are so big that the device can't lay flat on its back, a common feature with most smartphones these days.

But the YouTuber has gone one step further and called it 'possibly the wobbliest slab phone I’ve ever seen'.

So if you're brave enough to go caseless, you'll definitely notice it.

"OK I know everyone puts a case on their phone but I can’t possibly be the only one to notice this," he added.

Commenting on the clip, one viewer said: "I am supper confused why Apple (and others) have the camera bump.

"Please just give me a flat phone! I don't care if it's a bit thicker ... use that extra space for more battery!"

"Phones should lay flat without needing a case," another argued, while someone else said: "I don’t use a case and I keep waiting for Apple to engineer out the camera bump or at least extend it symmetrically across the entire phone."

Well, at Apple's unveiling event last week, CEO Tim Cook said the new devices have been made 'from the ground up for Apple Intelligence'.

“The innovation and invention these products deliver will continue to deepen the meaningful impact they have on all of our lives,” he said.

“I’m proud of our teams and what they’ve accomplished and I can’t wait for you to experience these amazing products.”
