Company offer £8000 to people that can spend one month without their phone

If you fancy earning a few quid while drastically reducing your screen time, this test of will power would be perfect for you.

A company are offering up a whopping £8,000 ($10,000) for people who can spend one whole month without their phone - which will sound like hell to a lot of people.

But if you can manage to prise your device out of your hands, you could be in for a huge payday.

It's all part of an initiative launched by Icelandic style skry yogurt brand, Siggi's, which has launched their own version of Dry January - but instead of giving up your favourite tipple, participants have to refrain from using the tech that's usually joined to their hip.

The US firm have announced their Digital Detox Program, which calls on participants to surrender their smartphones for 30 days in the hopes of them paying more attention to the world around them instead.

Siggi's say they 'believe in the power of living a simpler life with fewer distractions' - the biggest one being our phones.

Apparently, the average person spends a whopping 5.4 hours scrolling through nonsense on their mobile. Just imagine all the stuff we'd get done if TikTok wasn't so addictive.

The yoghurt company's director of PR and digital strategy, Kristina Drociak, said the challenge is all about going back to basics - AKA a flip phone - so people can start on the right foot for 2024.

She said: "Our brand ethos is all about stripping away the unnecessary, and just like fewer ingredients in yogurt we believe fewer digital distractions can make for a more satisfying life.

"The goal of the program is to show people the benefits of going digital-free in hopes that this can start new healthy habits in 2024 and beyond."

Siggi's are calling on people to take part in their digital detox.

If you reckon you're up to the challenge, all you have to do is head to Siggi's website before 31 January and apply.

You have to submit a 'compelling essay' ranging between 100-500 words explaining why you would benefit from a digital detox and how it will impact you in a positive way 'that aligns with Siggi's brand philosophy'.

There's nothing like a good old writing session to distract you from the fact that your phone is AWOL for the foreseeable.

Ten lucky winners will be announced by the first week of February, who will each receive £8,000, a lockbox for their phone, a flip phone in exchange and a one-month prepaid sim card.

Oh, and you'll be treated to three months worth of Siggi's yoghurt to keep you occupied. It's a no brainer, really.

Applicants must be 18 or older and there is a few other restrictions that apply, but you can get the complete lowdown on all the ins and outs here.

Best of luck!
