New horror movie The Outwaters causes people to leave cinema to throw up

This is definitely one to view at your peril.

If you're a fan of getting scared out of your mind, then new horror film The Outwaters might just be up your street.

But you might also want to bring a sick bag to the viewing, as it's got people rushing out of cinemas to be sick.

The film, which was released on 9 February, follows a group of four friends as they attempt to make a music video in the desert.

It's not long before all hell breaks loose, and they become plagued with all sorts of strange goings-on - like weird vibrations and strange animal behaviour.

The Outwaters official synopsis reads: "An excursion to the Mojave Desert turns creepy when a group of campers start to experience unexplained sounds, vibrations, and unnatural animal behaviour.

"Then one night everything changes, sending the foursome on a mind-bending trip through terror."

Despite only being recently released, critics are raving about the film on Rotten Tomatoes, where it has an impressive score of 71%.

Viewers, however, have been a little more divided because of the disorientating and sickening nature of the film - but I guess that's what horror at its best is meant to do.

Directed by Robbie Banfitch, The Outwaters, like other classic horrors including The Blair Witch Project, is made using found footage.

Reacting to the film on Twitter, one impressed viewer said that he was so shaken by what they saw that it actually sent his heart rate through the roof.

They wrote: "Wow...[The Outwaters] left me stunned to the point that my Apple Watch heart monitor kept going off for high heart rate. This film is a mind trip and downward spiral into hell.

"Another big win for Horror."

But it turns out that this was actually quite a common experience and another viewer shared photographic evidence of what the horror did to their heart.

They wrote: "I'd say tonight was pretty damn eventful!

"[Robbie Banfitch] you're amazing, hilarious, and this rewatch of [The Outwaters] has solidified my opinion that I believe this to have one of the most horrific and traumatising sequences I've ever experienced in a found footage horror film [sic]."

The film has had a startling effect on some people's heart rates.

A third viewer, meanwhile, had the unfortunate experience of being sick while watching the film.

"I'm still processing #TheOutwaters," they wrote on Twitter. "I am not sure if it worked for me.

"The sounding made me so uncomfortably dizzy that I had to leave the theatre to vomit. This never happened to me before. It's more disturbing than scary if that makes any sense."

As if that wasn't bad enough, a different viewer said that it played havoc with their anxiety.

They wrote: "The unending shrill darkness of the second half gave me the worst in-theater anxiety I've had in years. Don't want to see this again if I can help it for a few months, if ever."
