The wife of The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan has shared an update after the singer was rushed to hospital earlier this month.

MacGowan, 64, has been to hospital numerous times for various health issues over the last few years, but was most recently admitted last Friday (2 December).

His wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, asked fans to share their thoughts for her husband as she announced his latest trip to the hospital alongside a picture of MacGowan.

Clarke told the Irish Mirror the singer is 'a bit frustrated' at having been admitted, saying: “I’m definitely hoping he gets out this week... He finds it very frustrating… he wants to get out.”

When asked if he was doing okay, Clarke said, “I think he is, yeah.”

She later added: “Please don’t get too worried. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

Clarke shared her first update with fans after MacGowan had been in hospital for two days, writing: "Please send prayers and healing vibes to @ShaneMacGowan in hospital again and really hoping to get out asap!! Thank you."

The image of MacGowan showed him smiling at the camera while wearing a large cross around his neck.

Her call was met with a quick response from fans of the singer, whose track 'Fairytale of New York' has started ringing out again in the run up to Christmas. She has also explained what he's being treated for.

"I hope all is okay with Shane and that he gets out of hospital being stronger than ever," one fan wrote, while another tweeted: "Sending lots of healing prayers and energy Shane’s way! Hope he gets better very quickly and out of the hospital right away!"

A third posted: "Sending get well wishes and positive vibes! Nearly time for Fairytale in New York Shane."

Last night (6 December), Clarke posted another update in which she thanked everyone for their 'good wishes' and revealed MacGowan was 'being treated for an infection'.

"The doctors are confident that he will be ok," she added. "I am just incredibly grateful to them and to all of you."

MacGowan and Clarke married in 2018 after decades of romance which began when they met in a pub in London.

The singer began using a wheelchair after breaking his pelvis in 2015 and breaking one of his knees in 2021; injuries which left him unable to walk. He also underwent surgery in 2015 to get a new set of teeth.

After releasing his popular Christmas song with The Pogues in 1988, MacGowan left the band in 1991.
