The world of online dating is a cruel and fickle mistress.

Trying to determine whether or not you've matched with 'the one' by looking through a few photos of them is no easy task.

Well, if you're struggling to meet your match, help is at hand.

The CEO of Tinder recently offered her top tip for anyone trying to find that special someone.

Speaking to Reuters about the app and its new features, Renate Nyborg said it's actually very simple.

She told the agency: "If there was one tip I could give to anyone listening today, if you want to find a great match on Tinder, investing a bit of time in completing your profile, adding a video, things like this, this will really help you stand out and give people a sense of who you truly are."

A lot of the time, people can overthink their approach to dating. It's a minefield.

And it can go horribly wrong, as one woman found out when she sent an ill-advised voice note to her potential partner.

Tinder match called Alex sent a recording to the woman in question, Vanessa, just to introduce himself.

Unfortunately, however, Vanessa’s response in message was to share several seconds of her and her mates absolutely p***ing themselves laughing.

Not exactly gonna do wonders for old Alex's self-esteem, is it?

In a video shared by Vanessa’s friend Paolo, Alex can be heard saying: "Hi Vanessa, this is Alex, nice to hear your voice before, whereabouts are you staying in Vancouver?"

Paolo went on to explain that Vanessa had actually planned on sending a very standard reply, but accidentally sent the video of her and her mates chuckling to themselves.

Watch the video below to see how it all unfolded:

"She wanted to respond and accidentally sent this,” said Paolo.

Naturally, those who weren’t involved but saw the video on TikTok were amused by the whole ordeal.

One person commented: “That is the correct response."

Another said: “HAAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHA THAT WAS A VALID RESPONSE.”

And proving that the dating scene in Vancouver must be petty small, it seems as if others have had the pleasure of making Alex’s acquaintance too.

"I MATCHED WITH THE SAME GUY THAT SENT THE SAME MESSAGE!!!" revealed one.
