McDonald's Are Bringing Back The Shamrock Shake For St Patrick’s Day

McDonald's Are Bringing Back The Shamrock Shake For St Patrick’s Day

It's the most wonderful time of the year for those of us who like Irish-themed tacky drinks in McDonalds. So, everyone.

There's now much to get excited about at the moment, if we're being honest. Pubs are closed. Restaurants are closed.

Even when we go outside for our allotted exercise time, it's absolutely baltic and, while you might think you like the snow, you're not six years old. It's just cold and wet, combined.

There are green shoots, however. No, not the vaccine, or the, er, springing of spring. It's the return of the Shamrock Shake to Maccies. That's right: St Patrick's Day might be cancelled (again) but the green-tinted masterpiece will return to Ireland from this week on.

''Spring has officially sprung with the news that the iconic Shamrock Shake will be returning to restaurants across the nation," said McDonald's in a statement. Let's stop for a minute and imagine that it's someone's job to write statements for Maccies.

''While St. Patrick's Day might be a little different this year, rest assured McDonald's are here for you, keeping this tradition alive!" the person with the world's strangest job continued.

''Available from 10th February to 23rd March, this limited-edition shake is full of creamy vanilla soft serve, blended with delicious Shamrock Shake flavouring - it's sweet, green, and iconic for a reason."

''Although McDonald's restaurants are currently closed for dine-in and walk-in takeaway, customers can still get the Shamrock Shake at McDonald's Drive Thru while stocks last, or enjoy dessert delivered with McDelivery on Just Eat or Uber Eats.''

Naturally, people on Irish Twitter were way more excited about this than grown adults maybe should be about this kind of thing.

While it is undoubtedly funny to laugh at the dubious lives of those who celebrate each coming season by the arrival of Shamrock Shakes, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, the Coca Cola Truck and BBQ-themed telly ads, they are the little steps in the right direction that we all need at this stage.

If, like me, you're a dangerous renegade, feel free to take on the tip of dipping your salty chips into the milkshake (the Shamrock Shake works particularly well for this) and eating them all together. Nugs work just as well. No, you don't have to thank me.
