Breaking Bad has been voted the best TV show of the 21st century.

Yes, the people - and by people I mean LADbible's Twitter followers - have spoken, and the series that made Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul household names has been named the best show of the past 20 years.

And when you look at some of the series it pipped to the post, it's quite some feat.

In the first semi-final, with 47.8 percent of the vote, Game of Thrones eased past The Office (UK/US), which took 33.1 percent, Black Mirror (9.9 percent), and The Wire (9.2 percent).

And it was a similar story in the second semi, with Breaking Bad (50.2 percent) defeating Peaky Blinders (32.3 percent), Stranger Things (14.9 percent), and Mad Men (2.6 percent).

In the final, Heisenberg and Jesse were pitted against the colossal fantasy drama Game of Thrones, which they narrowly beat, taking 50.8 percent of the 11,429 votes that were cast.

Understandably, with a topic that is so divisive, there were bound to be lots of people who were unwilling to accept defeat.

Commenting on the vote, one fan wrote: "UK Office is sensational in it's own right. Every character is relatable and Brent is as fantastic as he is cringeworthy. Can't comment on the US version and it probably is great. But normally when the US takes something, it loses it's original appeal."

A second asked: "How did Game of Thrones beat The Wire?"

"Where is Big Bang Theory?" enquired an optimistic fan.

A fourth stated: "US & UK Office don't deserve to be combined, the UK version is absolutely toilet in comparison.

"Simply can't compare two short seasons to 9 seasons of comedy gold, several strong character developments & storylines. I didn't mind UK but US is far far better imo."

While another said: "Add Sherlock and that will be the winner."

Many of you questioned how and why The Sopranos had been omitted from the original line-up of shows.

Sadly, while the iconic gangster series continued into the 2000s, it first aired in 1999 so misses out by a year. The rest of the series all began life during the past two decades. Sorry.
