A woman has been wearing a Buzz Lightyear helmet in order to protect herself while she's out and about running errands because she couldn't find a face mask to wear. Here's a short video she shared of herself wearing her - let's say - unique headgear.

Kelly Hogan Painter decided to wear the helmet of the Toy Story character because she didn't have the necessary equipment to comply with the USA's Centres for Disease Prevention and Control's advice that everyone should cover their faces when they're in public.

Basically, Painter had to go out after discovering there was nothing for breakfast.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, eh?

Speaking to Insider, she said: "I realised one morning that we were eating oatmeal, and none of us like oatmeal.

"So I knew I needed to go to the grocery store."

Ordinarily, this wouldn't be an issue, but - as we all know - these are definitely not ordinary times. So, she grabbed the only thing that she had to hand. Well, that wouldn't suffocate her, anyway.

The mum-of-three continued: "Honestly, it was put a plastic bag over my head or wear the helmet.

"We don't have masks in our house. Who keeps masks in their house?"

Once she realised what she had to do, she simply grabbed the Buzz Lightyear mask and set off to the nearest grocery store to her North Carolina home.

To be fair, it seems as if it went down pretty well. She quickly realised that people were laughing and taking videos of her.

That's not a bad thing, as long as you're in on the joke.

She added: "They might be laughing at me, or they might be laughing with me.

"I really don't care either way, as long as they're laughing."

Thus far, she's worn the helmet on about 15 trips out to the shops, and she's even started taking it everywhere with her.

Whenever she gets home, she cleans it off with Lysol - a cleaning agent - and then keeps it safe for the next time she needs to head off.

She explained: "I don't go anywhere without it.

"I hope my grandkids and great-grandkids can Google me one day and be able to say, 'Yeah, I guess she was cool'.

"It's really crazy that people are laughing so hard about it. I think it's neat that everybody is trying to share the smiles."

Well, we all need a laugh just now. To infinity and beyond!
