Cineworld has announced plans to reopen cinemas across England on 10 July.

The opening date is subject to final clarifications and confirmation in regards to UK government restrictions, with dates to follow for cinemas in Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The cinema giant has promised a number of films for its return, including Mulan, Tenet, A Quiet Place Part II and No Time To Die.

The company will also be ensuring safety measures are implemented to keep employees and guests protected from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

These include:

  • Social distancing measures to be in force across all areas within cinemas
  • Hand washing in all employee and customer toilets, with anti-bacterial soap and stringent hand washing guidance
  • Hand sanitisers in all cinemas for both customers and employees
  • E-ticketing
  • Updated seating maps which will allow friends and family to sit together while also allowing a safe distance between customers from different households
  • Staggered film times to reduce customers crossing paths and stop any buildup of crowds in the foyer. This will also help with additional cleaning time between films
  • Plastic screens at the tills
  • Contactless payments will be accepted up to the value of £45 and Apple Pay/Google Pay mobile transactions will be available with no limit. The ticketing machines will also be accepting contactless payment as well
  • All employees will receive specific Covid-19 training and PPE will be provided to employees where the risk assessment has deemed it necessary, in line with government requirements
  • Trained staff will be on hand to offer assistance to customers

All Cineworld cinemas across the UK were closed on 18 March, with those in Ireland shutting a day earlier on 17 March.

In a press release, the company said: "We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all of our employees and guests.

"We deeply value our movie-loving customers and their health and wellbeing is our number one priority during this difficult time. We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible to enjoy a full slate of film releases."
