Man Caught Doing 123mph Told Police He Was Speeding To 'Get A Kebab'

Man Caught Doing 123mph Told Police He Was Speeding To 'Get A Kebab'

A man who was stopped by cops for doing 123mph down the M62 told officers he was in a rush to get a kebab.

Surprisingly, the Roads Policing Unit didn't accept that excuse for the driver doing almost double the national speed limit.

And the day got worse for the kebab-loving racer boy, as police also found that he didn't have insurance for the car he was driving - nor did he have a driving licence.

He attempted to pass himself off as his brother, however a fingerprint check revealed his true identity and he was slapped with a court summons from police.

Sharing the story on social media, the force wrote that man 'started speeding as he wanted a kebab from Manchester'.

Fellow reckless drivers were hit with the news that the UK is set to introduce new speed cameras which will be able to spot if motorists are not wearing a seat-belt as well as they are eating, drinking or smoking while at the wheel.

The new cameras will utilise LED infrared technology and will be placed in pairs with at least a 200m zone between them - one camera will pick up the number plate as it enters and the second as it exits, so drivers won't be able to just slow down at the last minute.

As well as being able to spot what you're up to inside your vehicle, the new cameras are a little more subtle than the big yellow ones we're accustomed to.

But try not to worry too much if you're the kind of person who likes to knock back a coffee or tuck into a butty while driving, because it isn't actually illegal to eat, drink or smoke while behind the wheel - unless you're drinking alcohol of course.

However, if your eating/drinking/smoking is deemed as a 'distraction', you could be whacked with a fine - so if you fancy a late-night kebab it's probably best to drive home and enjoy it there. Oh, and don't forget to make sure you have a driving licence plus valid insurance, and are travelling at an appropriate and legal speed, OK?
