Mum Breaks Both Ankles And Tears Ligaments Attempting TikTok Dance Challenge

Mum Breaks Both Ankles And Tears Ligaments Attempting TikTok Dance Challenge

A mum-of-two has broken both of her ankles and torn her ligaments whilst trying to attempt a TikTok dance challenge.

27-year-old Sapphire Charlesworth, from County Durham, was making an attempt at the 'Oh Na Na Na' challenge with her partner, when she sustained the injuries.

Well, we've all got to get a bit creative to keep ourselves entertained at the minute, right?

However, when they were performing the challenge, which - like many TikTok challenges - involves dancing to a particular song, she heard a noise that sounded bad and found herself on the floor in quite considerable pain.

So, in order to take on the challenge, two people stand opposite one another and tap their feet together in time to the music of Slim Burna's 'Oh Na Na Na'.

If you're not TikTok savvy, this probably isn't making a lot of sense.

Whilst thousands of people, including celebrities and footballers, have successfully completed the challenge and uploaded their efforts, it ended in disaster for Sapphire.

She told Chronicle Live: "We were just practising, and as I went to turn I slipped and heard 'crack, crack' and then I was in a heap on the floor.

"It hurt so so bad. I think my partner thought I was exaggerating.

"She had to pick me up and we were trying to wait to see if the pain wore off but then we had to phone an ambulance."

Upon receiving treatment at the University Hospital of North Durham, she was told that she'd broken her left ankle, fractured her right ankle, and badly torn the ligaments in her right foot.

Jeez, that's a lot of injuries to sustain from something so seemingly innocuous.

She's now in a moon boot and a cast and has been told that eventually she might have to have an operation to fully repair the damage.

She continued: "To anyone thinking of trying it, I'd say approach with caution.

Sapphire is now being looked after at home by her partner Naadjele, but saved special thanks for the staff of the NHS, who helped her out during her slightly unusual time of need.

She added: "I want to massively thank the NHS. Through all of this, they are keeping their spirits high."

Obviously, the health staff are under a lot of strain right now, but it's heartening to know that they're also on hand for unlikely accidents such as this one.
