Moment former England star run over during warm up for match in bizarre accident

A former Premier League footballer had a very near miss while warming up before a match.

Andros Townsend had been training before a match in Thailand when he was nearly run over by a roller on the pitch, which could have resulted in a very serious injury.

Shocking footage shows the small roller making its way across the pitch while players are warming up and training around it.

It then comes up to Townsend, who is standing on one leg as he carries out a warmup exercise or stretch.

In the resulting collision, Townsend is knock to the ground, with the front wheel of the small roller going up his leg as the driver leaps off, and shouts of shock can be heard.

Fortunately, the roller did not get any higher, and Townsend did not appear to suffer any serious injuries in the collision.

He was still able to play in the match as well, going onto the pitch for one minute as a substitute, with the team PT Prachuap winning the match 3-0 in the end.

Townsend has also acknowledged the incident on social media, sharing footage of the incident to his Instagram stories, as well as some memes that fans had made of the accident.

The incident reportedly happened during halftime of the match, with players getting some quick training in, passing the ball around while the roller made its way onto the pitch, driving very closely to other training players before the collision with Townsend.

Townsend was not injured in the accident, and several fans took to social media to share their reaction to the shock incident.

One wrote: "How on earth can this happen? This is utterly insane.”

Another posted: "This is why you shouldn’t be driving something so dangerous on the field while you have players training."

Meanwhile a third echoed that sentiment, writing: "Why is the grass roller even out there the exact same time as the players using the field!"

Someone else sent their best wishes to the footballer, posting: "Ohhh i hope he is okay… this looks terrible man.. thoughts with Andros".

Townsend, 35, has previously played in the Premier League in the UK, including stints at Everton, Luton, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, and Newcastle.

He has also played for England previously, earning his first cap for the team in 2013, and scoring three goals over 13 appearances with the squad.

In 2024 Townsend left the UK and lived briefly in Turkey, before moving from there to Thailand, where he now lives.

There, Townsend plays for the team PT Prachuap as a right winger, where he has played since August 2026. Prior to that he played for the team Kanchanaburi Power, before moving.

The incident has come after French player Kylian Mbappé was reportedly at the centre of an alleged kidnapping plot in France, which fortunately was not successful.

The star footballer was reportedly on a list of 26 people being chosen to be targeted by alleged kidnappings of wealthy people in France.
