Man spends 17 hours in world's biggest Wetherspoons and is left stunned by the final bill

What a way to spend a day

We've all heard of the American dream but the British dream may well be spending all day by the beach in the world's biggest Wetherspoons.

There's no denying that the people in this country know how to drink, and despite all the health problems that come with drinking alcohol on a regular basis, we Brits really do love a pint.

In a time where the price of beer is always increasing and a train journey costs more than a flight, fewer people are spending their weekends out drinking as they look to save some cash.

Thankfully, the presence of Wetherspoons pubs on nearly every street in the country means that when we do fancy a cheap pint, there's always somewhere close by.

The regular supply of breakfast, lunch and tea (yes I'm northern), means that you really don't need to ever leave, apart from when the pub closes - which sadly means that a British version of The Terminal filmed inside a Spoons is sadly just a pipe dream.

However, one man managed to spend his entire day from opening to close in the world's biggest Wetherspoons, the Royal Victoria, which located in Ramsgate, a seaside town around two hours from London.

He met a wide range of people who spent their time there, ranging from students fresh from finishing their exams, to retired locals who came to enjoy a meal or simply get p****d.

But perhaps the most surprising thing, other than the ridiculous amount they spend on carpets there due to people trekking in sand from the beach, was the small price he paid for all his food and drink throughout the day.

Writing for The Daily Mail, Harry Wallop said: "I’ve managed to enjoy three square meals, three pints, a cocktail and a whisky & soda nightcap for a mere £41.44 and I’ve met an astonishing array of people, nearly all of whom were happy to end up in the Royal Victoria."

Harry clarifies that he tries the fish and chips and the sticky Korean-fried chicken bowl with coconut-flavoured rice, neither of which qualify as the freshest meals that the pub has to offer according to a staff member.

However, they certainly did their job in lining his stomach, despite him trying one of the most disgusting drinks he's ever had in the evening, and having to put up with the £1.79 Ruddles pints throughout the day.

Considering a round of drinks in London will probably set you back over £50, spending your day in Wetherspoons might be the go to if you want to avoid cooking or wasting your own electricity.
