Brit tourist attacked in huge brawl after allegedly kicking cat in Mykonos

Shocking footage shows the moments leading up to a brawl which erupted on a Greek street involving a UK tourist.

According to reports from Mykonos Live TCV and local media the tourist, who has not been identified, had allegedly kicked a cat belonging to the owner of a mini market on 25 September.

Following this, the tourist and the owner of the business allegedly got involved in an argument, with other people present at the scene also appearing to get involved in the confrontation.

During the footage, the holidaymaker can be seen exchanging words with a man standing inside the shop and gesturing towards him as he rocks back and forth.

Others can be seen intervening, including one individual who appears to make an attempt to pull the tourist away from the situation and speak to him, also seeming to make conciliatory gestures towards the men in the shop.

Unfortunately, it appears that these efforts at de-escalation were unsuccessful as the video then cuts to show chaos having broken out in the street outside the mini market.

One man can be seen on the ground, with others scuffling while a woman can be heard shouting 'get off'.

Local reports have said that people had rounded on the tourist after he allegedly kicked the cat, with his friends then also becoming involved in the fracas, with blows being exchanged outside the mini market.

Reports went on to say that eventually the situation calmed, and no-one was seriously injured in the mayhem.

Another tourist in Greece previously found himself in hot water after being filmed kicking a cat into the sea in shocking footage.

The video emerged online in 2022, and shows three people sitting in a restaurant on the sea front, with the table mounted on a section of wooden boards over the water.

Two cats are seen approaching the table to try and blag some table scraps. One of the people at the table can be seen dangling a fish in front of one of the cats, which follows the fish and reaches for it.

In a sickening moment, as the small cat moves towards the edge of the boarded area the man appears to kick out, sending the animal hurtling into the sea as someone else is heard laughing off camera.

The clip went viral on social media, with Greece's police minister Takis Theodorikakos even speaking out to condemn the actions in the video.

"Violence against animals is unacceptable. I cordially congratulate those who brought the matter to the public attention," he said.

Fortunately the cat involved was not seriously harmed after being rescued by locals and taken to a vet to be check out.

Greece has severe laws on animal cruelty after a law was unanimously passed in 2020 introducing harsher punishments in serious cases.

In severe cases of animal cruelty this can include a fine of up to €50,000 (£42,900) and can even see someone thrown in prison for up to 10 years.
