Comedians are always opening them up to a bit of stick online but the popular Dapper Laughs has been forced to speak out after some harmful comments about him online.
Sadly, people in the audience and those who hide behind keyboards can often take things a bit too far when it comes to comedians, perhaps in the hope that it will be dismissed as 'banter'.
However, things got personal for Dapper Laughs, whose real name is Daniel O'Reilly, after one X user took a shot to say that he was 'off his nut', despite him openly advocating that he's been sober for more than three years.
In a now viral video, the 41-year-old has exposed the tweet and the messages that he received, suggesting that he felt compelled as a mental health advocate to speak out and confirm that this wasn't true, especially considering the sober journey that he has gone on.

He wrote: Apparently I’ve relapsed & I’m doing shows off my nut.
"I’m not letting anyone dictate how people perceive me anymore, especially when they’re trying to paint me as some kind of fraud and liar.
"If I relapse, you’ll know about it because I’ll tell you, I’ve got nothing to be ashamed about.

"I’ve been arguing with this guy in DM’s he admitted his friends just suggested to him I might be off my nut and if he’s wrong, he’s sorry, I gave him the opportunity to delete his tweet as I diddnt want to waste my day posting this but he won’t. Pure Clout Chasing..
"The internet is filled full of people trying to just destroy others. I ain’t having it."
You can listen to his full video below, where he explains that it was likely just nervous energy, since he'd written 10 minutes of new material all on Bonnie Blue.

Going up on stage can be nerve-wracking for even the most experienced comedian, so it's easy to see why someone might think that they're maybe on something they shouldn't be.
The tweet had read: "Went to a comedy show tonight, main act is allegedly a 'sober comedian'.
"Geezas was off his f***ing t**s.Same guy who’s been preaching sobriety on podcasts for years."
O'Reilly is candid about his own health experiences online, and launched the Menace to Sobriety podcast back in 2023 as a direct response to his personal struggles with substance abuse, mental health, as well as his ADHD diagnosis, which likely also played its part in how he was portrayed by the online troller.
Unfortunately, he points out that this wasn't his first experience with the online user, who also Dm'ed him three years ago with another problem, to which he pointed out that it's a bit strange that he even turned up in the first place.
