Police bodycam footage shows Vickrum Digwa repeatedly lying to officers after fatally stabbing 18-year-old university student Henry Nowak.
The video captures the 23-year-old from Southampton claiming he acted in self-defence.
He falsely told police that Henry was ‘obviously drunk’, and that he had been ‘racially attacked’ and pulled off his turban before he fought back.
A jury rejected those claims and sentenced Digwa to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.

“He pushed my turban off my head and started grabbing my hair. So I'm a Sikh obviously, and he started grabbing my hair and dragging me around,” Digwa said.
“My brother's seen it, stopped it, and that's where he's then started stumbling around, started climbing around all these bits and bobs and stuff like that.

“Literally I saw him from there and from the get go I said ‘look mate, you clearly are obviously drunk’, I said to him ‘just carry on with your day’ and he started escalating, calling me a P**i and all that stuff.
“And this isn't the first time that we've had something like this happen here. We've lived here since I was four and five and I've had it recently.”
He continued: “This isn't the first time we've had altercations. Not even altercations, we've had people racially attack us during the morning.”
An officer then asked: “Do you know how he's got that wound then?”

Digwa responded: “What wound, sorry?”
The officer clarified: “Well you said he's got blood on him, how's he… how's he?”
Digwa then lied: “It must have been when we punched him. Must have been when we punched him.
“But he did fall over here, so he was climbing all over these bins and stuff like that and then he's fell over and landed onto that car.”

It comes after body-worn camera footage from the incident shows Nowak telling police he had 'been stabbed'.
In response, one officer said: "Don’t think you have, mate."
The responding officers then proceeded to handcuff Henry and read him his rights - as he lay dying.
A court heard how the Digwa stabbed him with a ceremonial knife that sported a 21cm blade.
Prosecutors said it was a kirpan, which he carried as part of his Sikh religion.
Anger erupted after a three-minute police body-worn video was released showing Nowak, from Chafford Hundred, Essex, being placed in handcuffs moments before he became unconscious and subsequently died.
Released earlier this week, footage showed that police officers took around eight minutes to discover his stab wound.
Following the case, temporary Deputy Chief Constable Robert France, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: “This is an absolutely tragic case, and my sympathies are absolutely with Henry’s family, his friends, and his loved ones.
“I want to apologise, I want to say that I am sorry that Henry couldn’t be saved that night. I’m sorry that he was handcuffed and arrested in the moments before he lost consciousness.”
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating Hampshire Police’s response in the case.
