A mechanic has revealed something Brits should know about their MOTs.

I know, a lot of drivers may not want to think about taking their cars in for an MOT, as it usually tells you how much of it needs fixing, resulting in you forking out a large sum so that they can keep it running.

An MOT, which stands for the Ministry of Transport in the UK, is the annual inspection that every vehicle over three years old must go through to ensure that it complies with road safety and environmental standards.

It's a major headache, but something that most drivers have to do, despite many wanting to put it off for as long as possible.

However, did you know that there are tips and pointers about MOTs that could save you a heap of trouble?

That's right, there's a few things that you should bear in mind before taking your wagon in for that dreaded check-up that could save time and stress for you.

I know - radical.

A mechanic has given some advice on when the best time to bring your car in is, which could give you a peace of mind.

Firstly, you'll want to think about booking your appointment before your MOT expires, allowing you to fix any lingering problems before your car is deemed illegal to drive.

An off-peak appointment could make all the difference, either early in the morning, or in the evenings, lessening the chances of delays which would be common in peak periods.

The Chief Marketing Officer at BookMyGarage, Jessica Potts, highlighted: “Many drivers leave their MOTs until the last minute, especially during peak times.

"Our data shows that booking ahead of time, especially during off-peak hours, could help you avoid unnecessary delays and stress.”

Garages nowadays are starting to take on earlier and later bookings, as people may even have the option to drop their vehicles off early before they open, not needing to take time off work.

Those that can work from home will find this option particularly enticing.

It was also revealed that 24 percent of bookings are made between 6pm and 11pm, which is when people can easily take their car to get checked up after work, while 11 percent of bookings are made before most garages open at 9am.

The experts add that less busy hours improves convenience, and it means that your MOT is completed on time without any of the added hassle or stress.
