Top Democrat issues chilling warning to 'Trump Cartel'
Democrats seizing control of both chambers of Congress represents an overwhelming rejection of Donald Trump’s policies.
Hakeem Jeffries, the current House minority leader, says ‘there’s a cost to corruption’ and said that ‘we are going to hold the crooks accountable’.
Trump could face a third impeachment over allegations of abusing presidential powers or possibly violating the US Constitution.
Previously, Democrats have criticised his decision to launch military strikes against Iran without congressional authorisation.

Both JD Vance and the President have since blamed the Republican party loss, largely, on the decision to attack Iran.
Jeffries warned that congress will put a ‘check and balance on an out-of-control executive branch’, accusing the ‘Trump Cartel’ of ‘massive corruption’.
“We also made clear throughout this campaign that if you have people in high office, no matter who they are, and they're so focused on enriching themselves, their family members, their friends, and their donors, then the American people have clearly concluded that means they're not focused on making life better or more affordable for me,” Jeffries told Morning Joe.
“And it certainly is the case that the American people have connected that corruption into the adverse impact of the policies that have taken place over the last two years.
“And so, I think, when it comes to the accountability side of the equation, it's going to be our responsibility to follow the facts, apply the law, be guided by the Constitution, let the chips fall where they may, and make sure that wrongdoers are being held accountable, while, of course, ensuring that the Congress works to deliver for the American people at all times.”
Could Donald Trump be impeached again?
Democrats have the opportunity to begin impeachment proceedings when the newly elected Congress takes office on 3 January, 2027.
Trump – who recently issued a warning to Democrats if they tried to impeach him – was first impeached in 2019 for abuse of power and obstructing Congress, and again in 2021 for inciting insurrection. Both ended in acquittal.
“But impeachment is not simply a mechanism for removing a president. It can also become a source of sustained political pressure,” Josephine Liu, co-founder of Geopolitical Consulting Firm GC NEXUS, tells LADbible.
“Investigations, subpoenas and public hearings could consume the administration's attention, resources and political capital, even without a Senate conviction.
“Trump, however, could turn those proceedings into a political confrontation of his own. That makes impeachment a double-edged sword: it could constrain his presidency, but it could also distract Democrats from delivering their own agenda.
“This is not a political move Democrats can afford to get halfway right. A failed attempt could end up strengthening the very president they are trying to constrain.”
