The BBC allegedly sacked Scott Mills after 'new information' regarding a historic complaint came to light.

On Monday (30 March), it was confirmed that the broadcaster had decided to terminate the Radio 2 presenter's contract 'over personal conduct'.

It later emerged that Mills, 53, had been investigated for historical allegations made against him by a teenage boy under the age of 16 back in 2016. The allegations were reported to have happened between 1997 and 2000.

Mills, then in his 40s, was questioned by the Met Police in July 2018 'under caution'. However, the 'evidential threshold' needed to bring charges was not met, with the case subsequently being closed in May 2019.

Now, an update from The Mirror has suggested the broadcaster was forced to axe Mills after hearing new claims made by the then-teenage boy involved in the initial investigation.

The outlet went on to claim the BBC had decided Mills 'had to go' after assessing the new information given to them.

LADbible Group has approached the BBC for comment regarding the latest allegations.

The new claims made by The Mirror come as the broadcaster apologised over its handling of separate claims made against Mills.

According to allegations published in The Telegraph, a freelance journalist had contacted the BBC in May 2025 to say she had been notified of alleged 'inappropriate communications' involving Mills and asked if they were 'aware of or involved in any related matters'.

The journalist also asked the broadcaster if they'd ever received any 'formal or informal complaints' about Mills 'relating to safeguarding, inappropriate conduct or harassment' and whether or not they had ever conducted an internal investigation into him.

She claimed she did not receive a response.

The BBC has now apologised for its handling of the situation, telling Sky News: "We received a press query in 2025 which included limited information. This should have been followed up and we should have asked further questions. We apologise for this and will look into why this did not happen.

"More broadly, we would always urge anyone who has concerns or information to raise it with us."

Mills, who took over as presenter on Radio 2's Breakfast Show from Zoe Ball, is yet to comment publicly on his sacking or the allegations.

His sacking was, however, addressed by colleague Jeremy Vine, who told viewers that he was 'confused' by the decision.

"Scott Mills' sacking has left a lot of people very confused. What do you make of it? I'd love to know?" Vine asked his listeners, before revealing that Mills' Radio 2 colleagues had learnt of the news just before midday on Monday.
