Piers Morgan has left Good Morning Britain.

Following this morning's explosive show, that saw Piers walk off set, the news was confirmed by ITV in a statement.

It read: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

It follows a period of controversial behaviour from Piers, who has recently been criticised for comments made against Meghan Markle.

On yesterday's show (8 March), Morgan said he had been left 'sickened' by Markle and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey and said he 'didn't believe a word' that Meghan had said, adding: "I wouldn't believe her if she read me a weather report."

The comment drew criticism from mental health charity Mind, especially following Meghan's admission that she had experienced suicidal thoughts.

In a statement, the charity said: "We were disappointed and concerned to see Piers Morgan's comments on not believing Meghan's experiences about suicidal thoughts today.

"It's vital that when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health that they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy.

"We are in conversation with ITV about this at the moment."

This morning (9 March), Morgan stormed off the Good Morning Britain set after getting into a clash with colleague Alex Beresford.

Beresford branded Morgan's behaviour 'diabolic', in the wake of comments made by the show's tempestuous anchor about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following their recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Talking about the interview and the couple's decision to leave the UK to start a new life in the US, Beresford said: "They have had an overwhelming amount of negative press.

"I watched the programme yesterday and yes they had some great press around the wedding, but what press is going to trash someone's special day?

"There was bad press around the engagement, before the engagement and everything that has followed has since has been incredibly damaging, clearly, to Meghan's mental health and also to Harry."

Speaking to Morgan, he added: "I understand you don't like Meghan Markle, you've made it so clear a number of times on this programme and I understand that you had a personal relationship with Meghan Markle and she cut you off.

"But she's entitled to cut you off if she wants to - has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has, yet you continue to trash her."
