Christmas is just around the corner. But while most of us are looking forward to spending time with loved ones and partying with friends, the country's NHS is focusing on keeping us all safe.

It's the busiest time of year for emergency services, and to thank them for the work they do and make sure they are looked after too, Uber is offering two free taxi rides to all NHS employees between 23 and 27 December.

The cab firm is also offering an alternative of two free Uber Eats meals for workers who don't need help with transport over the festive season.

According to a 2017 NHS report, around 400,000 employees work over the festive period, including about 97,000 nurses, 53,000 nursing assistants, 176,000 care workers, 12,000 ambulance drivers and 12,000 midwives.

Speaking about the promotion, Uber's Jamie Heywood said they were happy to be able to help those who work so hard to care for us.

He said: "We all know someone who works tirelessly over Christmas to keep the NHS running and this is our way of saying thank you.

"For the third year, we're offering NHS doctors, nurses and support staff a helping hand to get to and from work at Christmas time, when public transport is limited.

"This year, it's fantastic to extend the offer to provide a free meal to help make those shifts a little easier."

However, if you're planning to take advantage of the offer, you'll have to be quick as the deadline to send in your details is next week.

Staff members looking to get either two free Uber trips or Uber Eats codes need to visit www.uber.com/nhs and enter their official NHS email address by 9am on Friday 20 December.

Those who don't need a taxi can get up to £20 off two Uber Eats orders.

The two codes should then be sent to your email by 22 December, after which they can then be redeemed for trips and orders - up to the value of £10 ($13) each.

Once you have that, to apply the code you need to open the Uber app and select 'Payment/Wallet' from the menu, then tap 'Add Promo', and enter your code.

Orders then have to be made between midnight on Monday 23 December 2019 and 11.59pm on Friday 27 December. And that's it.

The promotion is open to all NHS staff in the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) who are aged 18 years or over. And, obviously, you need to have an Uber account.

Merry Christmas.
