A traveller who managed to turn a profit of more than £550 without having to leave the airport has revealed exactly how a ‘spur-of-the-moment’ decision worked in her favour.
Meet Cameron Frank: a 30-year-old American who was supposed to be flying from Chicago, Illinois, to Detroit, Michigan, on a Delta Airlines plane.
The wardrobe stylist was flying out of Chicago O'Hare Airport to attend a crucial business meeting with investors, with her clients actually forking out for the plane ticket to get her there.

However, when she was asked to give up her seat, she took a gamble that paid off so spectacularly that she’s inspired us to manifest overbooked flights in the future.
Upon arrival at the airport, Frank was informed that too many people had been listed for her flight.
She was asked if she’d be willing to give up her seat and, to incentivise her to say yes, she was offered a whopping $1,000 (£745) to rebook.
The fashion specialist claimed that she was also offered a seat on the next flight out for free, but that the timing was not right for the meeting.
“The next Delta flight would have been too late. This made me look at what other flights were available, which is when I saw the American Airlines one leaving in 35 minutes,” she explained.

With the $1,000 Delta compensation, Frank spent $250 for a seat on the American Airlines plane to Detroit - making a tidy $750 profit (£559).

With just minutes before the plane took off, the woman was forced to run from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5, jumping on an airport train to make it to the gate in time.
“It was definitely a close call, and there were points where I wasn't sure if I would make it.
"The train between terminals felt agonisingly slow at points, but I made it eventually.

"Then I was just lucky that I only had hand luggage and could get through security as quickly as possible.
"I made it to the gate with 11 minutes to spare and even managed to grab myself a Starbucks caramel Frappuccino!"
"I'd say it took me about 20 minutes in total, from gate to gate."
After getting to her destination in time, Frank emailed Delta to ask if they would compensate her for the flight, to which the airline agreed.
"It was a bit of a spur-of-the-moment decision, so my heart was definitely racing,” she explained.

"I had taken credits for being bumped off a flight before, but never straight cash and never to run for another plane.”
She continued: "I emailed Delta, honestly not expecting much, but they got back quickly and were happy to help.”
The airline reportedly reimbursed Cameron the price of her flight in company credits - $529 (£394).
"I travel a lot for my job so having airline credits is actually quite valuable to me, so I'm very happy with the outcome.”

But, that isn’t the only luck that Frank had that day.
Upon arriving at her hotel in Detroit, she discovered that her digs had a casino.
“I was feeling lucky so I played some Blackjack that night. I ended up winning with an extra $800!” (£597)
How’s that for a good day at the office?
