The eldest son of Rob Reiner said his world had 'collapsed' after learning about the deaths of his parents.
On 14 December 2025, the bodies of Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, following a call to emergency services from their daughter Romy.
The couple's second child, Nick Reiner, was later arrested in connection with their deaths and charged with two separate counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances.
He has since pleaded not guilty, but, if convicted, he could face the death penalty.

Now, Jake Reiner has penned an emotional Substack post regarding the loss of his parents, detailing the pain of losing 'more than half' of his family in one night.
"We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable," he wrote.

"Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time," he continued.
"We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable. Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the centre of it. It’s almost too impossible to process."
Jake went on to pay tribute to each of his parents through a selection of cherished memories, calling Michele the 'engine, the backbone, and the heart of our entire family', and Rob his 'hero'.
Both Rob, who worked on films such as When Harry Met Sally and Stand By Me, and Michele, a film producer and photographer, died at their home after sustaining 'multiple sharp force injuries'.
It's alleged that Nick had assaulted both of his parents with a knife before fleeing the home.

Nick had struggled with both addiction and homelessness throughout his adult life, previously working on the film Being Charlie with detailed his struggles.
His next court date is scheduled for 29 April.
Jake went on to reveal that it was 28-year-old Romy who called him after finding their father's lifeless body inside the master bedroom of their home, ringing him back shortly later to break the news that their mother had died as well.
Recalling details of the 45-minute taxi journey to his sister, Jake wrote: "I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister.

"I can’t even begin to put myself in my parents’ shoes, but one thing I keep coming back to is how frightened they must have been," he added.
"They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them.
"They should be enjoying the rest of their lives peacefully while growing older together. Instead, that was ripped away from them, from me, from Romy, and there was nothing we could do about it."
