$167 million lottery winner arrested for the fifth time since winning
In April 2025, James Farthing won what was the largest Powerball jackpot ever won in Kentucky at a mega $167.3 million.
But since claiming his big winnings last year, he has been arrested five times.
Most recently, the 51-year-old was taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday morning (20 September). WLEX reported that police found Farthing asleep in a running car parked at a Walmart in Georgetown, US.
He was taken into custody and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Prior to this, the lottery winner has faces arrests for alleged charges of battery, intimidation, burglary, marijuana possession and domestic violence.
Farthing’s public intoxication case is currently pending in Scott County District Court and he is reportedly set to be arraigned today.
Deputies were called at around 2:57am on Sunday morning after it was reported that a white Ford Mustang with a temporary tag stopped in the middle of an intersection.
The member of the public who called it in told dispatchers that the car then drove into the Walmart car park and parked near charging stations for electric vehicles.
WLEX reports that the Mustang was then found running its engine in the charging area as it’s said Farthing was asleep inside it with no one else present.
He apparently did not initially respond and only woke up after deputies had repeatedly knocked on the car.
The arresting deputy reported noting several signs of impairment such as bloodshot and watery eyes, difficulty maintaining balance and slurred speech. It’s also alleged that the deputies could smell alcohol and marijuana.
Farthing reportedly claimed a woman had driven him to the car park and left him there, but this is reportedly contradicted by surveillance footage showing the vehicle arriving there without anyone getting out before officers arrived.
Just days after the man claimed his Powerball prize, he was arrested in Florida following an altercation at a resort. He faced charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
And in February this year, he was arrested in Kentucky and charged with intimidation of a participant in the legal process.
Then, in March, he faced charges of second-degree burglary and marijuana possession – this case was later dismissed.
Most recently before this public intoxication case, he was arrested in Scott County in July following an alleged domestic violence incident. He pleaded not guilty and a judge set his bond at $15,000.
