After finding out she could spend the rest of her life in prison, Mackenzie Shirilla reckoned that reality star Kim Kardashian might be her only hope.
During a jail call, the 21-year-old Ohio inmate was heard urging the person on the other end of the phone to inform the aspiring lawyer that she 'buys all her SKIMS and only wears SKIMS'.
Now, Kardashian has reportedly shared her thoughts on whether she's willing to lend her a hand with the case - and it's not good news for Shirilla.
As well as being a businesswoman, mother-of-four and showbiz star, Kardashian is a staunch advocate for criminal justice reform in the US.

Although she hasn't yet passed the bar exam, she's at least got a decent understanding of the legal system, and she's not shy about sharing her ideas on how she thinks it could improve.
She routinely wades in on complex cases, utilises her huge following to assist death row inmates facing execution and supports incarcerated people seeking clemency.

Given the 45-year-old's track record, it seems that Shirilla thought she would be able to help her challenge her conviction for the 2022 crash that ended the lives of her boyfriend Dominic Russo, 20, and his friend Davion Flanagan, 19.
It recently emerged that the young woman, whose case was thrust back into the spotlight in wake of the Netflix documentary The Crash, had discussed this prospect on a phone call from prison.
Shirilla, who was supposedly conversing with her mother Natalie, made the call while she was locked up at the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center in Ohio.
This is where she was held in wake of her August 2023 conviction, which saw Judge Nancy Russo sentence her to two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life for 'deliberately' causing the deadly crash.
Shirilla is now currently serving out her sentence at the Ohio Reformatory for Women and told The Crash viewers that she find it 'really hard every day' to reside there. She will be eligible for parole in 2037.
"I try to wake up and be the best person I can be every day, stay out of trouble," she said. "There's not a moment that doesn't pass where I don't think about [Russo and Flanagan]."
In an undated jail call which took place during her time at the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center, Shirilla was heard discussing the worldwide media coverage of the tragic case.

"Well maybe Kim Kardashian's seen," Shirilla said during the chat, according to People.
The person she was on the phone to concurred, saying: "Yeah, maybe Kim will, now that it's, like, all over. I was like, I mean, that's the only thing that might be good about the whole media thing. Maybe Kim will see it."
They then discussed Kardashian's reputation on the legal scene, with Shirilla then saying: "I don’t know. You have to figure out because I’m real nervous and I want Kim Kardashian to be my lawyer."
When the other person said 'we’re gonna have her get you out', the killer then added: "Tell her I buy all her SKIMS and I only wear SKIMS."

However, it seems All's Fair actress Kardashian isn't keen on getting involved with Shirilla.
According to TMZ, a source close to the star rubbished the idea that she would assist Shirilla with her case or ongoing bid for freedom.
An insider told the publication: "Kim advocates for criminal justice reform by supporting individuals she believes were wrongfully convicted, as well as people within the prison system who have demonstrated rehabilitation and deserve a fair second chance. This case does not fall within her focus." LADbible has contacted Kardashian's representatives for comment.

The contents of a host of Shirilla's jail calls have recently gone public, including one where she discussed her fears for the future and another where she tells a pal she is the 'third victim' of the 2022 car crash.
In 2024, Shirilla missed her chance at appealing her conviction by just 24 hours - and in March this year, the Ohio Courts of Appeal upheld the decision to reject her bid for freedom due to the error.
The family of Davion Flanagan shared a poignant post in wake of the news, explaining that the killer's appeals 'put them through hell over and over again'.
"One day, all her appeals will be exhausted and we can finally start the process of trying to accept this unimaginable loss without the constant threat of her release," the late 19-year-old's loved ones said.
