The family of a woman who died a few days after a cosmetic procedure want an inquest into what happened.

40-year-old NYPD detective Alicia Stone had travelled to Colombia after having a butt lift and liposuction treatment, after which she was rushed to the Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital after she had been found unresponsive in her hotel room.

The New York Daily News reports that the mum-of-three died on Thursday (23 October) after being found in her hotel at around 6:30am, and was declared dead at around 7:50am having gone into cardiac arrest.

They explained that she had been receiving anticoagulant medication and oral pain medicine after the procedure and had been staying in a hotel afterwards to recover from the procedure.

Her husband Michael told the Daily News that his wife was 'perfectly fine' before going in for the cosmetic procedure and she had spoken to him the day before she died saying 'she was fine' then too.

The widower has requested an autopsy so he can find out exactly what happened to his wife as he said he 'needs to know'.

Michael explained that a doctor called him at around 11am on the Thursday and was told that Alicia had gone through 'some medical episode and they tried to save her' but 'that was it'.

He said: "The doctor who called me from Colombia just called me and told me my wife had just passed away. She didn’t even have any information to tell me when I was asking her...

"Something just doesn’t add up. To be called Thursday and told that she passed away, that is just shocking and hurtful.

"I don’t have the facts and that’s what I need, the facts of what happened."

A fundraiser has been set up to put together some money to help the mum's family in the aftermath of her death, and it can be donated to here.

"It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Detective Alicia Stone, a devoted wife, loving mother of three, and a dedicated public servant who spent her career protecting and serving others," the fundraiser said of the late woman.

"Alicia’s kindness, courage, and compassion touched everyone she met both in and out of uniform. Her unexpected passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of her family, friends, and fellow officers.

"She leaves behind her husband and three beautiful children, who now face an unimaginable loss."

If her cause of death is related to the BBL surgery then she would not be the first to die due to complications associated with the procedure, as other women have died following similar treatments, while some have been left fighting for their lives.
