A woman has claimed her house was ransacked as part of an investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

Late last night, early morning GMT (11 February), a man was detained in connection with the disappearance of the 84-year-old after a traffic stop an hour south of Tucson, Arizona.

It is believed the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie was potentially ‘kidnapped’ or ‘abducted’ from her bed in the early hours of 1 February.

The man, identified only as Carlos, was subsequently taken to a police station, while law enforcement searched a property in Rio Rico.

Both the search of the home and questioning have since been completed, with the unnamed man being released without charges, according to local outlet KNXV.

The homeowner of the property has since spoken out about the situation, claiming that the FBI had ransacked her house.

Speaking about the situation in an interview with CNN, the woman said law enforcement arrived at her house after receiving a tip-off from investigators.

"They had somebody give a tip that the lady was in my house," the woman told reporters. "I told them you can go in and search my house; there is nobody there. I have nothing to hide."

According to The New York Times, the woman revealed the detained man was her son-in-law but insisted that he had nothing to do with Guthrie's disappearance.

She also complained that police were 'swarming her house' and had 'broke down the door'.

Carlos has also spoken out about being detained, addressing reporters from the doorstep of his mother-in-law's home. Here, he told them that he didn't know who Guthrie was, as he said: "I don't follow the news."

He added: "I hope they get the suspect, because I’m not it."

What do we know about the abduction of Nancy Guthrie?

Nancy was abducted from her home in the early hours of 1 February, having last been seen the night before when family members dropped her off after dinner.

Authorities have been investigating 'ransom notes' that may be from her abductors, with the initial one containing two deadlines - 5 and 9 February.

Details were not released, but following the second message, Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron, shared a video directed to the senders to say they 'understand' the message.

“We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her,” the TV news host said. “This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

The family had also warned about Nancy's ill health, saying she 'lives in constant pain' and is 'fragile'.

"She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer," Savannah said in another video.

It is also confirmed by authorities that on the night she disappeared, the app on Nancy's pacemaker disconnected from her phone. And police said they found blood on her porch, which analysis confirmed to be hers.

Carlos' detention came shortly after the FBI released images and videos of a masked person at Nancy's doorstep the night she disappeared, with it said they were armed.

Savannah shared this video on Instagram, saying: "Someone out there recognises this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home."

The FBI is offering a $50,000 (£36,000) reward for information on this case.
