Unusual rule could mean Barron Trump is exempt from US army conscription

#SendBarron has been trending in recent days as Americans call for the youngest son to be drafted

It’s been trending on social media over recent days that if conscription is introduced for Americans, then members of the president’s family should be included.

More specifically, there are calls for Barron Trump to serve for the military.

The likes of #SendBarron became a viral hashtag on X as tensions with Iran escalated and attacks began.

And now Trump has said the US could take ‘far longer’ than its projected four-to-five-week time frame for its military operations against the country in the Middle East.

Rather ominously, the president wrote on Truth Social that: “Wars can be fought ‘forever’.”

The US and Israel have continued to hit Iran since killing its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday (28 February) and as it continues on each side, talks of military drafts for Americans rumble on – but a rule means Barron may be exempt.

There hasn’t been anything to suggest a military draft will be needed in the states yet, it’s worth noting.

But a lot of people in the states reckon that if it gets to the point of a full-scale war and they’re expected to enlist, then so should the youngest child of Trump.

At the age of 19, Barron would typically be required to register with the Selective Service System. This is in place in the US even when there is no active conscription in place for the military but just means that with all males registering when they’re 18, the government can quickly implement a draft when necessary.

However, the thing potentially protecting Barron is his infamous height.

The president’s fifth and youngest son is anything but little, measuring in at an impressive 6’9”. And it turns out, there’s a typical heigh restriction for the US military of 6’8”. Lucky Barron, I guess?

This seems to be in place for roles that involved being in confined spaces like tanks or armoured vehicles or for the Airforce, presumably so pilots aren’t whacking their heads when they sit in the jets.

So, Barron could potentially be exempt from conscription because of the medical reason of his height, rather than because he’s the president’s son.

But that doesn’t stop the noise on social media, as X users write: “#SendBarron because this shit is fucked, y’all,” pointing out the lack of the Trump family’s military service.

Another wrote: “Why not demonstrate that Trump family spirit of patriotism and sacrifice by sending Barron to fight Iran?”

“#SendBarron. Would certainly send a message of solidarity with our troops, and gratitude for the sacrifices they make every day,” a third suggested.
