'Golden straws' worth £5,000 each are being hidden in drinks from Wetherspoon pubs

Cue Gene Wilder singing about a 'world of pure inebriation'

Some lucky revellers could land themselves a big prize if they are served the right straw at Wetherspoons, with an exciting giveaway on.

Forget Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Au Vodka is putting out a number of prizes which could mean big money for someone on a trip to the pub.

It might not lead to a tour of a fantastical chocolate factory where each tourist meets a grisly end with an ironic connection to their character flaws, but it could mean a huge cash prize.

Look out for the golden straw.

Au Vodka will choose random pitchers at three Wetherpoons locations, on three different dates and at three different times.

The lucky customer could find themselves a cool £5,000 richer if they happen to find themselves with one of the pitchers with the coveted Au Vodka golden-coloured straw.

In a video posted on the Au Vodka Instagram page, DJ and part owner Charlie Sloth says: "For your chance to win £5,000 this summer just go to a Wetherspoons pub and buy Au Vodka Candy Rosa.

"If you find the golden straw you win £5,000 and me personally delivering it to you."

People certainly seemed to be enthused by the notion of not only having the drink, but also bagging £5k for going down to Spoons.

One commented: "Could've done this last weekend I had 4 of them beauties to myself."

While another wrote: "As if I needed an easy excuse to go."

A caption posted alongside the video read: "Three purchase dates/times/pubs will be selected randomly. The lucky winners buying the Au Vodka Candy Rosá pitcher who are served with the unique Au Vodka golden-coloured straw at the winning time and location will win a £5,000 prize - Good Luck!"

The giveaway will be available at Wetherspoons pubs.

However, it's not all good news as the giveaway excludes sites in airports, Beaconsfield, Leicester Square (London), Windsor and the Republic of Ireland.

The closing date for the giveaway is 30 September 2023.

Au Vodka began life in Wales in 2015 and has since become an established UK vodka brand.

Founders Charlie Morgan and Jackson Quinn made the Sunday Times Young Rich List for 2023, being worth a whopping £55 million each thanks to the success of their enterprise together.

The brand initially took off in a number of bars around Swansea, as well as making a splash on Instagram in part thanks to its distinctive gold-coloured bottle.

Au Vodka started out with a single run of 2,000 bottles of the spirit, and now manufactures some 35,000 bottles every single day. It's expanded out into seven flavours, including Au Original, Black Grape, Fruit Punch, Blue Raspberry, Green Watermelon, Red Cherry, and Pineapple Crush.

It's also not the first time that the company has staged a big giveaway. In 2022, Au Vodka wrapped a Lamborghini in its signature gold colour in a giveaway worth £120,000.
