An elderly woman has been caught on camera slapping a Jet2 steward across the face after they allegedly took away her gin and tonic. Watch footage of the incident below:

The incident, which occurred on a flight from Manchester to Rhodes, is said to have unfolded because the passenger was refused a glass of champagne as it wasn't part of the service.

The woman then ordered a G&T but became increasingly aggressive, which is when a steward intervened, allegedly taking away the pensioner’s drink.

After being denied a free glass of bubbly, the elderly woman reportedly became more and more irate.

A male member of staff can be seen trying to calm the woman down in footage as she waves her arms around. Eventually, the Jet2 steward sits next to the woman to try and deescalate the situation, but he quickly jumps up to avoid being hit.

The unnamed passenger was escorted off the flight by police after the plane was diverted and landed in Munich.

The woman, who was visibly intoxicated, became increasingly aggressive towards steward staff.

But the woman also gets up from her seat and leans towards the employee before hitting him in the face.

As another member of staff comes to their colleagues’ aid, the woman is seen falling back into her seat before the video cuts.

Sharing insight into the incident, one of the plane’s passengers - who asked to remain anonymous - also accused the woman of ‘urinating in her seat’ before being escorted off the aircraft by ‘nine German police officers’.

The passenger said: “A woman on the flight repeatedly asked the flight attendants for free champagne.

“The flight attendant told the woman that wasn't part of the service and she bought a gin and tonic in the end. She began to get aggressive so the flight attendant removed her drink.”

The passenger added: “She started swearing and having violent outbursts. At one point she got up and tried to open the cabin door mid flight.

“At this point she was sat back down with two male passengers trying to hold her down as she was punching people.

“She urinated over three seats and repeatedly had bursts of violent episodes until we had to make an emergency landing in Munich.”

Commending Jet2’s handling of the situation, the passenger - who spent more than two hours waiting for another flight in Germany - added: “Jet2 handled this situation really well and the captain of the plane gave everyone complimentary drinks.”

The incident is said to have unfolded because the passenger was refused a free glass of champagne.

In a statement released today, a spokesperson for Jet2 said: "We can confirm that flight LS819 from Manchester to Rhodes was diverted to Munich Airport yesterday so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded.

“We would like to apologise to customers for this unforeseen delay and any inconvenience caused.

“The health and safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority and, as a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour.

“We will not hesitate to vigorously pursue any costs incurred as a result of this diversion.”

LADbible has approached Jet2 for comment.
