What happens inside Berghain nightclub as bouncer reveals who they let in

If you want to be in with the chance of being accepted into an uber-secretive club that lets people in based on an unknown checklist, then Berghain is the way to go.

Berghain nightclub, which is located in Berlin, sits near the border between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain and is coveted by partygoers all over thanks to its penchant for turning people away.

Ever since its creation in 2004 by pals Norbert Thormann and Michael Teufele, the club has been protected by legendary bouncer Sven Marquardt, who either lets people in or tells them to get loss based on standards anyone else couldn’t pin point if they were to study his process.

But now he’s revealing the way he determines who can get access to the club.

Marquadt revealed in the 2019 documentary, Berlin Bouncer: "It's subjective. Only a few of my guys are allowed to select guests at the door.

"I feel like I have a responsibility to make Berghain a safe place for people who come purely to enjoy the music and celebrate - to preserve it as a place where people can forget about space and time for a little while and enjoy themselves.”

One of those people selected to enter the club was Jacki, 29, who posted a video on TikTok explaining everything.

From its black dress code to the process of being let into the main room, was detailed in her video.

Sharing her outfit and that of her friend Jesse, it’s clear to see the paid locked in on the black attire.

Jacki wore a short black skirt, cropped black top and fingerless gloves while Jesse donned a black mesh vest and black trousers.

In another one of her videos, she revealed that initially, the pair were told they looked ‘boring’, but got in anyway.

“Once the guy told us we looked a little bit boring but he waved us in, the next thing you do is go through bag check . . . the entrance fee was $29 which I thought was kind of a bargain compared to what I think you would pay in a club that big,” she said to her followers.

She said from there, they went into a ‘locker room’ area which you enter after the bag check, and allows people to get changed into an often skimpier version of their outfits.

“Some of these outfits people got into were kind of insane, there were girls in lingerie, maybe just a g-string, nothing on top. Certain guys were getting full nothing on, full everything swinging, hanging out,” she said.

She explained that because of the venue’s no photography rule, everyone’s phone cameras were covered with stickers before they could enter the main room.

“There’s also two different dance floors, one super techno one and one more slightly disco, EDM one at the top, no words or anything like that but one’s a little more dancey and one’s super heavy techno,” she revealed.

There were also allegedly some scenes of nudity she didn’t expect to see, and strange food offerings.

“Also this is so random but inside they sell bananas and ice cream as food. So there’s people who go in there and stay for two, three days and literally eat banana and ice cream while they’re there,” she said.
