Donald Trump warns he's 'not done' with Putin as he gives intense update on situation during phone call

The US president revealed he 'trusts almost no-one'

Donald Trump has spoken of his 'disappointment' in Vladimir Putin for prolonging the war in Ukraine in a bombshell new interview.

Tensions between the two world leaders have been flaring over the last few weeks and the US President, 79, hasn't really tried to hide it, either.

First, audio tapes leaked which featured Trump bragging about telling his Russian counterpart that he would 'bomb the s**t out of Moscow' if the nation invaded Ukraine.

Then he publicly declared just how unhappy he was with Putin, saying he was sick to the back teeth of the 'bulls**t [being] thrown at us' by the Russian president.

So, by all appearances, Trump seems to be reaching the end of his tether.

Although Putin is seemingly skating on seriously thin ice with the commander-in-chief, Trump has now revealed he isn't pulling the plug on their relationship - just yet.

"I'm disappointed in him, but I'm not done with him," he said during a 20-minute phone call with the BBC. "But I'm disappointed in him."

According to Trump, Putin keeps moving the goal posts when it comes to sorting out an end to the invasion of Ukraine.

Before he was elected, the US president claimed he would be able to put a stop to the conflict on 'day one' of moving back into the White House... but we're now on his 176th day in the Oval Office.

Trump has now revealed that he thought he was about to iron out a deal with Putin to end the war on four different occasions - but each time, it fell through.

Trump said the US is still 'working at it', even though Russia is dragging its heels.

Speaking of Putin, he said: "We'll have a great conversation. I'll say: 'That's good, I'll think we're close to getting it done,' and then he'll knock down a building in Kyiv."

Russia have upped the ante in recent weeks in terms of missile attacks on Ukraine, while Trump has just announced a deal to supply Volodymyr Zelenskyy's country with Patriot air defence missiles.

The US has also threatened to impose tariffs on Russia unless a peace deal is reached within 50 days, so it almost sounds like it is the last chance saloon for Trump and Putin's relationship.

Asked whether he trusts Putin, Trump replied: "I trust almost no-one."

Elsewhere, Trump backtracked on his previous comments about NATO being 'obsolete', instead saying it was 'now becoming the opposite of that'.

He praised the alliance for 'paying their own bills' while complimenting member states for banding together, as he believes in collective defence so smaller countries can still have a fighting chance.

Trump went on to say that he has earned the respect of his fellow world leaders - including the heads of France, Germany and Spain - as he reckons they think there's a 'lot of talent' in being elected for a second term.

He then dubbed the UK 'a great place' and referred to the 'special bond' the country has with the US.

"I really like the prime minister a lot, even though he is a liberal," Trump said of Sir Keir Starmer, before revealing how he intends for his state visit in September to go down.

Discussing his plans for the upcoming transatlantic trip, the US president added: "Have a good time and respect King Charles, because he's a great gentleman."
