American Lad Transforms Van Into Mobile Home And Travels Country

Living the dream.

An American lad has pulled off every man's dream of hitting the road and setting off into the sunset after he and his dad transformed a van into a mobile home.

Zach Both, 23, and his dad spent eight months (on and off) doing up a $3,900 clapped out 2003 Chevrolet Express, turning it into a new home on wheels, despite neither having any previous carpentry experience.

Having grown restless with his 9-to-5 desk job as an art director, Zach decided to pack it all in and pursue his childhood dream of becoming a filmmaker while he travelled about the country.

Fucking hell that must have taken some graft.

After doing it up, he set off from his native Boston, heading west through the Grand Teton mountains and down the USA coast.

He now uses the mobile home as part of his work as a filmmaker.

Speaking to Mashable, Zach said: "I typically don't travel for travel's sake. I tend to follow where the work or an interesting story is taking place."

If you fancy having a go at it yourself, Zach has created The Vanual, which has loads of advice for would-be kings of the road.

Apparently it wasn't all shits and giggles though, and Zach also reckons that the dream of hitting the road doesn't always live up to the reality.

"In reality, constantly being a stranger to the environment and the people around you can become exhausting and at times unsatisfying," he said.

"That was a lesson I learned that seems obvious now, but I was oblivious and naive to at the very beginning."

So I dunno mate, maybe have a proper think about it before you get to work souping up that Ford Transit.
