The coppers weren't impressed.

An Australian driver received a $300 (AUD) fine and six penalty points on their licence, after jumping a red light because they were 'in a rush to get to Nando's'.

So urgent was the Hyundai driver in his desire to get to the amphitheatre of cheeky banter that he decided to disregard traffic signals in Perth.

The news came when officers from the Western Australian Police Traffic department tweeted a notice they had issued to a driver who ran a red light yesterday.

The reason given for the traffic offense was simply put as: "I'm in a rush to get the kids Nando's."

Although Western Australia police found themselves unable to deny the irresistibility of that sweet, sweet chicken, they also warned drivers: "Nando's Chicken is good but lives are put at risk every time you drive through a [red traffic light], there simply is no excuse!"

To be fair, as much as it's wrong to break traffic laws there's definitely some mitigating circumstances at play here. It seems the South African peri-peri chicken joint just seems to be getting better and better.

Back in February it 'brought together the sun, soil and spirit of Nando's Southern African home' by introducing their PERi-PERi Vusa - their hottest sauce yet.

Speaking about the sauce, a Nando's spokesperson said: "Versatile enough to drizzle on everything from flame-grilled Chicken Wings with PERi-PERi chips to Supergrain Salad, yet fiery enough to impress mates and dates alike, PERi-PERi Vusa certainly packs a punch.

"Meaning 'excitement and fire' in Zulu, 'Vusa' combines more PERi-PERi chillies than any other sauce with Nando's distinctive ingredients including citrus, garlic and onion for an intense, full-bodied taste."

It's even been reported that the chain's branch at Gatwick Airport, London - their first in any airport - serves a 'traditional' breakfast.

Look at some of the offerings of their breakfast menu:

I don't know about you, but if I'm ever flying out of Gatwick I know what I'll be tucking into along with my pre-flight pints.
