Argentina fan who went topless at World Cup shares reason behind her stunt

An Argentina fan who went topless at the FIFA World Cup final has revealed the reason behind her stunt that risked her getting jailed.

When watching any major sporting event, many can get carried away and end up doing something daft.

Not that we would know the feeling as Brits, but this one woman went to extreme lengths on Sunday (18 December) in Qatar after she watched her nation Argentina beat France on penalties to lift the FIFA World Cup.

Before Lionel Messi even had the chance to lift the trophy at the Lusail Stadium, the TV cameras captured a jubilant woman with her top off waving it above her head as she jumped up and down.

The woman risked arrest in Qatar as their strict laws govern how women should dress in public.

Before the tournament, Qatari officials asked any fans visiting the country for the FIFA World Cup to 'respect local culture' by not wearing any tight clothing and have shoulders and knees covered at all times.

Obviously the woman's stunt went completely against the rules, so she certainly risked being jailed for her antics.

The woman, whose name we later found out is Noemi Gomez, was reportedly escorted out of the Lusail Stadium by officials after she celebrated topless.

You might have noticed that Noemi was not alone in her stunt, as she was joined by fellow footie fan and friend Milu Barbiie.

Viewers had feared for both fans' safety following the incident amid risk that they might be thrown into jail.

But on Monday, Gomez revealed that she had fled to Europe, but did not classify what country she was in.

Milu was less secretive about where she headed after leaving Qatar, having filmed herself walking around the streets of Madrid earlier this week.

Noemi has now taken to Instagram to explain why she decided to celebrate Argentina's World Cup victory topless.

She revealed that she pulled the stunt in protest to being kicked off a beach in Qatar 'for being a woman'.

In a clip from the beach, she captioned the post with: "The moment they kicked me out of a beach in Qatar for being a woman...how could I not celebrate topless?"

The clip shows a group of people talking at the beach in Spanish, with only Noemi's legs visible.

Though she does have them covered up with trousers and sandals.

A security guard then appears to have a conversation with some men in the group, and asks Noemi to leave the beach - though it is unclear why.
